As part of its quest to achieve Eco Church status, St Nicholas, Dunnington is organising two community events to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee & St Nicholas Church Building Fund.

Mindful of the decline in our insect populations and their importance for all life on earth, the aim of the events is to encourage more pollinator-friendly planting within the community. The events’ team is also aiming to engage as many corners of the community as possible, with contributions from senior citizens’ community groups, children’s groups/settings and local businesses. Inclusivity is important to the team; with budget-friendly plants and decorations at the sale, free colour-in print-outs and a place to display for the art competition available for all kids in the village (whether or not they are doing a display), and trail maps priced at just £1. Trail preparations also involved encouraging residents to grow sunflowers to show solidarity with the Ukraine.

The Bee Friendly crafts & plants sale took place on Saturday 9th, where visitors were able to treat themselves to some budget-friendly bee-themed decorations from knitted bees and painted stones to inexpensive pollinator-friendly plants. Dunnington’s Little People Play and Praise group made a thumb-print bee-patterned table decoration, and one keen crafter made over 30 items for the sale. See the photos of the sale here.

Bee Friendly Trail & Sweet Treats Sale - Saturday 23rd July: 10am - 4pm & Sunday 24th: July 12pm - 4pm.

It's like a scarecrow trail but with a twist – enjoy our community’s bee-themed displays and decorations, bee-friendly blooms, and our children’s art competition posters and flags.
