Recent figures released from the Church of England show that during the pandemic, the increase in Average Planned Giving across Diocese of York was among the highest in the country.

Despite the challenges we have all faced over the past couple of years, research from the Church of England's Research and Statistics team shows that planned giving across churches in the Diocese of York has risen by a significant percentage. Planned giving is counted as any regular giving, given by Standing Order, Parish Giving Scheme, or the Envelope Scheme.

The figures show an Average Weekly Gift rise of £1.60 (from £10.10 a week in 2019 to £11.70 in 2020), a rise of 16%, the second largest percentage increase across the Church of England.

Generous Giving Adviser, Sammi Tooze comments,

“This percentage increase demonstrates that, even during such a difficult time, the commitment of our communities to support their local churches is inspiring - for the Diocese of York to see the second largest percentage increase in the country is something to be very proud of.

“Paired with the excellent recent report about the 650% increase in digital giving published in April, we are really seeing the fruit of our church communities growing cultures of generosity, and nurturing people in their giving to enable our local work and mission.”

Generous Giving Officer Phil McBride adds,

“I am so proud of these figures, as it shows that as a diocese, York is moving in a good direction. Using a sporting analogy, the Diocese of York has moved from the fourth tier of the national giving statistics league to be challenging near the top of the third tier!”
