Cathedrals have written a special prayer for Brexit and are inviting people to come and pray as we draw nearer to the debate in the House of Commons on the Government’s Brexit proposals next Tuesday.

Lichfield Cathedral will host a special time of guided prayer from 1310 – 1330 at the foot of their new icon cross to coincide with the debate, and is urging other churches and cathedrals to join them where they are.

The Dean of Southwark, the Very Revd Andrew Nunn has written a special prayer for people to use if they wish (see below), and the Chair of the Association of English Cathedrals and the Dean of Lichfield, the Very Revd Adrian Dorber, today urged people to remember their cathedrals were always open for prayer or just to take a moment of stillness and quiet reflection.

Next Tuesday sees the culmination of the debate in the House of Commons on the Government’s Brexit proposals. The outcome of that debate and vote will determine our nation’s future.

“It seems right therefore to invite people to come and pray in the cathedral, to remember the heavy responsibility on our parliamentarians, and to ask God for wisdom and integrity in our national life.

Dean Adrian

God of reconciling hope,

as you guided your people in the past

guide us through the turmoil of the present time

and bring us to that place of flourishing

where our unity can be restored,

the common good served

and all shall be made well.

In the name of Jesus we pray.

Amen.
