"Safe and Sound", Safeguarding Week 2022 with York Minster and the Diocese of York, will offer a sharp focus on practical steps towards building a safeguarding culture in your own local church - or cathedral.

Safeguarding Week in 2021, "Everyone's Business", saw nearly 500 people from across the Diocese of York voluntarily take part in events across the five days, in addition to the regular programmes of safeguarding training provided from church officers and those in ministry. Archbishop Stephen said, "This has been about how we shape our present and our future so our churches are equipped to be everything they should be in the proclamation of the love we find in Jesus Christ."

"Safe and Sound" will feature up to three events each day (morning, afternoon and evening), online on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with in-person sessions at Bishopthorpe Palace, home of the Archbishop of York, on Wednesday. The week will open with a video reflection by the Archbishop of York, and end with a reflection by the Dean of York.

Plans include an address by Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell at Bishopthorpe Palace (working title 'We are the culture'), advice on planning and holding a 'safeguarding service', the practicalities of Safeguarding Dashboards, guidance on safer recruitment, the processing of DBS applications, and how to work well with safeguarding children.

Full details and arrangements for booking (free) places will be released early in September.
