Mustard Seed programme leader, Heather Black, writes:

At the end of a sunny week, when many people may have been planning to go on holiday, we have been sharing ‘Stories of Hope’ from Scarborough. As one of Yorkshire’s popular holiday destinations the tourism, hospitality and leisure industries have been hard hit by the impact of Covid-19. It is not clear what the long term impact will be, but our coastal communities are certainly more vulnerable, with businesses and livelihoods in the balance.

Across Scarborough the churches have been mindful of the concerns and worries of local people, and have been helping people to stay connected, building a sense of support within their communities. There are some great examples of online family services, singing groups and afternoon tea parties. If you check out Revd Mike, the singing vicar on our Facebook page he is sure to put a smile on your face!

Revd Jo Parker who is curate at Westway Arms and Holy Nativity Church, describes how they have been working with the local community to build strong networks of support, creating a sense of family. The church has created a supportive environment where people can reach out and care for each other, drawing out the rich treasure of people’s love and care within the community.

Please join us in praying for Scarborough and our coastal communities as the churches continue to plant seeds of hope, so that people may find God’s love.
