The team behind the successful ‘yourcafe’ Community Café brought a pop-up, pay-as-you-feel café to York's St Lawrence Parish church one day in August.
Customers could pay as much or as little as they liked - or even nothing at all - for the food and drink at both cafe and stall.
Food was sourced from suppliers across York, including major nationwide supermarkets and small independent establishments in the city centre, who donated excess food rather than letting it going to waste.
Yourcafe founder Margaret Hattam said, “These pop-up cafés are a great way for people to try something new in the summer holidays. We are taking tasty, fresh food that would otherwise be going to landfill, and making sure it goes to a good use instead.”
