Together Middlesbrough and Cleveland have won the "Improving the Health and Wellbeing of Residents" award at the Middlesbrough Civic Community Awards on the 15th April for their fantastic 'Feast of Fun' initiative.

The awards were created to celebrate and recognise the 'individuals and organisations who make Middlesbrough such a great place to live'. The awards recognised Feast of Fun, which was started by Together Middlesbrough and Cleveland and continues to be run today by Heather Black, Val Oliver, and Elaine Curry in churches in Middlesbrough.

Feast of Fun seeks to offer holiday activities and healthy food for children in low income families who struggle during the summer holidays without free school meals. Since its inception in 2014 where only 6 churches were involved, it has grown to include over 23 churches, schools, and community groups are involved, offering support to 1,000 children and families.

Not only does the initiative prepare healthy, nutritious meals for children and their families, but also offers the chance for attendees to travel out of Middlesbrough for day trips, to places like the North York Moors and the Bowes Museum. As its ethos, the Feast of Fun aims to 'make our communities safer, stronger, and happier for so many children and their families each summer.

After the event, Heather Black stated 'it was a wonderful evening, and we are very proud to have won!'.
