After running up Snowdon a couple of times, walking (and a few years later, running) the Lyke Wake Walk, and then in 2019 running home from Whitby to Dunnington, near York (50 miles), the Revd Canon Nick Bird was looking for a new challenge.
After delaying for a year due to COVID-19, over the 23rd to 24th July he walked the Yorkshire Wolds Way from Hessle to Filey, completing the journey in 31 hours.
Completing the 79-mile walk, which is a national trail threading itself across beautiful countryside, has been a long-held ambition.
His wife, Diane Benson, walked the first four hours with Nick, and his colleague, the Revd Mark Poole did another three, before being joined by an old friend, Jason Shearer, for the 30-mile night section.
Nick said, "The blisters were all worth it to spend time in beautiful surroundings with friends and family, and to raise some money for a new roof for the St Nicholas Church extension...
"But please stop me if I ever suggest doing it again".
