A Surrogate for Marriages is a member of the clergy who has been specially appointed to issue Common Licences for Marriage on behalf of the Bishop of the Diocese, as provided by the Marriage Act 1949.

Licence applications are made directly to a Surrogate for Marriages, in person.

Those with access to the Online Diocesan Directory can find the current Surrogates by entering 'surrogate' in the 'Posts' search box on the left of the screen.
