Stations of the Cross with Eggs by Jane Tibbs, Bath & Wells

Stations are places where people wait while they are going from one place to another.

A school bus stop is a bit like a station. People wait at railway stations or bus stops or airports. Think of some stations where you have been.

Stations are also places where people take time to think about Jesus as he went to die on a cross. They are Stations of the Cross. They show us how much Jesus loved us.

This way of exploring the Stations of the Cross with children uses eggs and a variety of objects. It may take time and be a bit fiddly, but is well worth it.

Each egg station has one heart and symbol for that station. You can use these as an activity for the children to match up the symbols, or you can just use them to go through the Stations of the Cross one at a time.

As the liturgical colour for Lent is purple, you might like to use 14 purple eggs and a gold egg for the resurrection, but it doesn't really matter—the choice is yours!

Read the Bible reading (when there is one) and the short reflection when exploring each egg.
