Claire Graham-Brown is the Deputy Director of Education with particular responsibility for Governor support and liaison - but is currently on maternity leave. The National Society (for the Promotion of Religious Education) is the national body responsible for providing support to Church schools in England. Their website contains a treasure trove of helpful guidance which governors may wish to refer to from time to time. Although of particular relevance to governors in Aided and Foundation schools who have employer responsibilities, foundation governors in Controlled schools will also find this material helpful. The Christian Values for Schools website has been added to the National Society’s suite of resources. This considers 15 Christian values which you may wish to explore in your school. The purpose of this material is to help you to delve deeper into the distinctive Christian character of a Church school. There are theological backgrounds which will help you to discover what is distinctively Christian about each of the values. There are Biblical references to aid further study and prompt new insights. Each value has a set of accompanying questions and cameos that show the values in action in the daily life of a school. The values are linked to the four key areas of SIAMS inspections: ethos, worship, curriculum and leadership.
