Introduction

Over the next 2 years, we are encouraging our family of schools to JOURNEY through the Bible and the Church year together. This journey is part of our wider focus on a Year in the Diocese where we hope to

DISCOVER ~ JOURNEY ~CELEBRATE Together.

This page contains resources to support you in school to journey through the Bible and the Church Year together.

Year One 2020/21

The journey through the Bible will be in six sections enabling us to journey through God’s Story, Old and New Testament, over the school year on one day a week alongside additional resources for key times of the Church Year.

The six key themes explored are:

• Creation and covenant

• Exodus and Promised Land

• Judges and Kings

• Exile and Prophets

• Jesus and the Gospels

• Acts and the Church

The resources are designed to be flexible to use either as a whole school collective worship or as a class worship. Each week there will a Gather, engage, respond and Send structure on the website in a format that enables you to display it on the screen. There will also be notes for the teacher and links to other resources to support you in your planning. Links are made most weeks to the Lion Storyteller Bible and the materials provide plenty of opportunities for church and school to work together.

For schools who have not used the resources in the academic year 2020/21 Year One will remain on the website for you to use.

Year Two 2021/22

The Journey Through the Bible Collective worship resources this year are based on an exploration of The Lord’s Prayer. Each half term will take one line of the prayer and use Bible stories and Christian examples to examine a related theme: Love, justice, service and charity, perseverance and faith, forgiveness and mercy, truth and wisdom and peace.

Each half term will be resourced with five outlines for Collective worship, which reflect the material covered in the Diocese of York Journey Through the Bible Family Calendar which we hope children and their families will be accessing at home and/or church. One will be an explanation of the line of the Lord’s prayer and theological theme (LP). Three will be based on biblical examples – one each from the Old and New Testament (OT, NT), and one from Jesus’ teaching (JS). The fifth session will illustrate the theme lived out by a Christian Saint or a contemporary individual or community (CE).

As usual we will be providing resources for the church year including: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Ascension Day and Pentecost – or signposting you to recommended resources produced by other agencies.
