Media consent

How we use your image, voice or story in our communications.

The Diocese of York sometimes takes photos, records video, captures audio, or livestreams at events and activities to help share the story of what God is doing across our diocese.

Please use one of the forms below if you, your child, or someone involved in your church or event is being photographed, filmed, or recorded for diocesan communications.

These forms help make sure people understand how their image, voice, or story may be used, and that consent is recorded clearly.

Choose the right form

Adult media consent form

For anyone aged 18 or over who is being photographed, filmed, or recorded.

Use this form for: posed photographs, interviews, videos, audio recordings, named stories, testimony, or any situation where a person is clearly identifiable.

Under-18s media consent form

For children and young people under 18. This should be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

Use this form for:
photos, video or audio involving children or young people, including church activities, youth events, school-linked activities, interviews or stories.

Information and guidance

Young person’s media explanation

A short, accessible explanation for children and young people, helping them understand what they are being asked and reminding them that they can say no.

This does not replace parent or carer consent, but should be used alongside it where appropriate.

Media consent privacy information

This explains in more detail how the Diocese of York may use, store, and manage photos, video, audio, and media consent information.

Please read this if you would like more information before completing a consent form.

Before completing a form

Please make sure you understand:

  • what type of media is being recorded, such as photo, video, audio, or livestream;
  • where it may be used, such as the diocesan website, social media, email updates, printed materials, or partner channels;
  • whether a name, role, or story may be included;
  • that online material may be shared, downloaded, or copied by others;
  • that consent can be withdrawn at any time, although it may not always be possible to remove material that has already been shared by third parties.

If the story involves personal testimony, faith, beliefs, sensitive circumstances, or lived experience, we may ask for additional explicit consent.

If you do not want to be photographed or filmed

If you are attending an event and do not want to appear in photos, video, audio, or livestream, please speak to the event organiser, photographer, or a member of the Diocese of York communications team.

We will do our best to respect your wishes.

For event organisers

If you are organising an event where photography, filming, audio recording, or livestreaming may take place, please make sure that:

  • people know in advance where possible;
  • clear signs are displayed at the event;
  • consent forms are used for identifiable people, interviews, stories, and children or young people;
  • completed forms are sent alongside media to the communications team at comms@yorkdiocese.org
  • any restrictions are clearly passed on to the photographer, videographer, or communications team.

You may also wish to include a media notice in your event information.

Suggested wording:

Photography and filming may take place at this event for Diocese of York communications. Please speak to the event organiser if you do not want to be photographed or filmed.
