Do you have a passion to work with the marginalised? The ones many in society choose to ignore or demonise? Do you long to see broken lives transformed through faith? Are you a hope bringer?

If you can answer yes to these questions, then consider joining our multi-faith chaplaincy team here at HMP & YOI New Hall in Wakefield.

The role is open to all ordained clergy, Licensed Lay Minsters (Readers) and Church Army Evangelists who hold a diocesan bishop’s licence.

Overview

HMP & YOI New Hall is a closed female prison in Flockton, Wakefield and serves a community of around 350 prisoners. Many of our prisoners have complex needs and have lived chaotic lifestyles, therefore this role is both challenging and rewarding in equal measure. Working as a team and within the larger prison organisation, we seek to help prisoners find their self-worth and rehabilitate back into society.

Summary of the role

The job holder will provide for the religious care of prisoners and staff in the Anglican faith tradition including sacramental provision, and appropriate pastoral care for all irrespective of faith or tradition.

The job holder will work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of the specification ‘Faith and Pastoral Care’ [psi-05-2016-faith-pastoral-care-prisoners.pdf], and also the broader work of chaplaincy in delivering faith and non-faith based courses. They will contribute to the process by which the Governor and Head of Chaplaincy/Profession at HQ are assured that the specification is being delivered.

The job holder will engage with, and build contacts with their own faith community towards aiding the resettlement of offenders.

This is a non-operational job with no line management or supervisory responsibilities.
