About Us
St Wulstan’s is a small but growing church on the east side of York (within the Diocese of York, in the Church of England). We have a commitment to grow in love for Jesus, to learn from the Bible, to serve in the power of the Holy Spirit, and to share God’s life in our local community. We share a vicar with St Thomas’ in the Groves, a neighbouring church with whom we have strengthening links.
Over the past few months, we have seen the development of a monthly Bubble Church service at St Wulstan’s (aimed at 0-7s), with which some members of St Thomas’ have also been involved. We have also had the unexpected joy of some local children and families joining our weekly morning service. In January 2026, we launched our Woolly Lambs toddler group.
The Children and Families Worker will oversee the development of a weekly group for children on a Sunday morning, the monthly Bubble Church service, and the new weekly pre-school group for parents/carers and 0-5s. He or she will also be the main point of contact for any families. We already have a fledgling community of children, and would love to further engage with them and their families moving forward, as well as to expand our reach and engagement with the wider community. St Wulstan’s parish includes a number of areas of deprivation where we know there are children struggling in situations of family and relationship breakdown.
The role is designed:
- To develop our capacity to reach out to children (and families) living locally who don’t yet know Jesus
- To enable the church to better welcome and nurture children
- To develop our capacity to offer high quality children’s provision as part of our Sunday worship
- To develop a team to support the work, equipping and supporting as appropriate
- To strengthen and develop relationships with local schools
