We are keeping Reader Sunday again on the Sunday before Lent, which falls on 11 February 2018. It’s a day for celebrating and giving thanks to God for the ministry of our many licensed lay ministers.

Reader ministry plays a vital part in the ministry within the Diocese of York working as team members with clergy and Recognised Parish Assistants. Readers have an in-depth training for their ministry which includes preaching and teaching but is by no means limited to it.

Some parishes have a strong tradition of Reader ministry, which means that there are role models for potential new Readers: but some parishes don’t. So it’s hoped that as many parishes as possible will invite a Reader to preach on Reader Sunday. It may be that you see that God is calling someone you know to be a Reader (or maybe yourself).
