- Bishop John visits Kirk Fenton Primary School
On Monday 29th June 2015 the children and staff of Kirk Fenton were very happy to welcome Bishop John to school.
The morning began with Bishop John leading our Monday collective worship for the whole school. Using a fun interactive game he went on to share how he works to fulfil his role leading and caring for our community. He also gave us all some tips on how to practise the quality of humility, our school theme this half term.
Then it was an opportunity for Year 3 to share some of their work and thoughts around their topic. “What makes Jesus an inspiration to some people? Who is inspiring for me?” Bishop John answered a number of questions and shared his own childhood experiences in Uganda including those people who proved inspirational to him. The children listened with great interest.
These are just a few extracts from Year 3’s thoughts.
- My mum
is an inspiring person as she is always happy. She is part of the Kirk
Fenton Community. My mum looks after me always. (Alice)
- My dad inspires me; he always has time for me. My dad is good at teaching me football skills. (Thomas)
- My cousin is an inspiration to me, she is funny and cheerful. She helps people in my family community. (Morgan)
A recipe for a good teacher
First you take 10 spoonfuls of advice,
350 grams of clear explanations,
3 pinches of skills
Add a cup of kindness.
3 teaspoons of good teaching,
Half a bag of honesty,
Half a mug of loud voices,
3 tablespoons of understanding,
Mix it together with love and you have an amazing teacher. (Callie)
Bishop
John went on to talk about the Parable of The Mustard Seed, reminding
us all that great things grow from small beginnings.
A very interesting morning and we hope that Bishop John will come back and see us all very soon.
