Deanery Mission Weekend in New Ainsty

The mission begins on Friday morning when the Archbishop will visit Bramham Primary School to meet pupils and bless the new playground area. He will then visit Boston Spa Secondary school for a Q&A session with students. Appleton Roebuck and Tadcaster East Primary Schools welcome the Archbishop on Friday afternoon. The Archbishop will be planting a tree in the new garden at Tadcaster East. On Friday evening at 7.30pm there will be a ‘Big Fun Quiz’ at St Giles Church Centre Copmanthorpe– all are welcome.

On Friday at 8pm, join Mrs Margaret Sentamu and Revd Jane Brown who will be guest speakers at Divine Divas in the Boys Sunday School, Tadcaster – an event on life and faith for women. The Revd Canon Sue Sheriff, Vicar of Tadcaster, said,

“Margaret Sentamu is an inspiration to many both professionally and personally and we are looking forward to hearing how her faith motivates and helps her. We shall be celebrating Diva's through the Decades and encouraging those attending to wear at least something that gives a nod to the era when they were out 'on the razz' plus to bring something to contribute to the 'rolling buffet' that no party could be without in their decade. Join us.”

On Saturday morning, the Bishop of Selby is encouraging all to join him for a litter-pick at 10am starting at All Saints Church, Rufforth. At the same time, there is Coffee Morning and talk by The Venerable John Day on ‘God’s Free Gift’ at the Boys Sunday School in Tadcaster, Thy Kingdom Come prayers offered at the Millennium Square, Boston Spa from 10-12 noon with free Fairtrade coffee & chat with Archdeacon Sarah at the Methodist Church Boston Spa – all are welcome.

Archdeacon Sarah will then be joining the Lost Sheep Hunt at the Village Hall at Church Fenton from 2-4pm and will call in at the Clifford Open Garden (2- 5pm) - a must for gardening enthusiasts. Prayers will be offered at St Luke’s Church in the late afternoon.

Appleton Roebuck Methodist Chapel is hosting afternoon tea from 3-5pm with Bishop John Thomson who will later also call in at the family barbeque at Healaugh Vicarage to launch the Rural Ainsty Youth Group at 5.30pm approx – come along!

Following a Q & A session at the Ship Inn, Acaster Malbis on Saturday morning – this event is now sold out – Archbishop Sentamu will be joining the car wash and free barbeque in the car park at All Saints church on the Green in Upper Poppleton from 12 noon to 3pm where he will give an address on ‘Riding the wave of God’s generosity’. Blessings are offered by the Archbishop at the Church of the Epiphany, Tockwith from 3-5pm.
On Saturday night, Askham Bryan Village Hall is hosting a cheese and wine get together at 7.30pm with Archdeacon Sarah– bring along a photo of you as a baby! The Crown Inn at Bolton Percy is the place to be for beer and hymns with the Bishop of Selby at 7.30pm – all are welcome.

On Sunday the Archbishop will preach at the Morning Service at St Andrew’s Church, Bishopthorpe at 10.30am – all are welcome to attend. The Bishop of Selby will preach at the Rogation Service & Community Gathering at St Andrews Church, Newton Kyme at 10am. Archdeacon Sarah will preach at the 10am Celtic Communion at All Saints Bramham – all are welcome to attend.

The Deanery will close the mission weekend with a celebration of praise & prayer with Archbishop Sentamu, Bishop John Thomson and Archdeacon Sarah at St Mary’s Church, Tadcaster at 2.30pm – all are very welcome to come along and coffee & cake will follow the service.

The Deanery mission to the New Ainsty Deanery is the eighth of 23 weekend missions across the Diocese of York that the Archbishop of York is undertaking in 2017 and 2018. The Deanery Mission to Whitby follows on 23-25 June 2017.
