John Sentamu's Agape Love Stories

The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu is today at Henley Literary Festival talking about his book ‘Agape Love Stories’.

In this inspiring book – a companion to John Sentamu’s Hope Stories (DLT, 2014) and John Sentamu’s Faith Stories (DLT,2013) – Archbishop Sentamu introduces the stories of 22 individuals with personal encounters of the love of God in the midst of devastating experiences such as bereavement, female genital mutilation, being held hostage and surviving a tsunami.

In this heart-warming and challenging book, they invite us to share in their incredible journeys of opening hearts and homes, taking on new roles that express unconditional and selfless love to others.

Archbishop Sentamu said: “These remarkable stories show us the Holy Spirit at work and how transformations are made possible. When we know God’s self-giving love for us, we are on a journey to walk the way of Christ Jesus and become love to others. Life isn’t simple but loving help makes all the difference”

A selection of the accompanying videos to these stories follows:

Jean Vanier

Jean Vanier’s story shows how the Holy Spirit works through ordinary people like him – and us – to be that comfort and support to those who are lost. When Jean Vanier first saw those desperate men in the asylum, he was dismayed by how rejected and misunderstood they were. God reached Jean Vanier’s heart through the men’s cries for fellowship and friendship, and set him on a path that would transform their lives as well as his.

Richard Taylor OBE

Richard Taylor’s story is full of the pain of loss, but also full of the love of God who has helped him bear and endure the murder of his young ten year old son, and then the death of his wife, and has brought hope for others as a result.

Emily Finch

Emily’s story shows how a bold step of imagination, faith and generosity have given her the opportunity to reach out to young people where they are – and help them towards an understanding of God’s great love for them.
