St John's church, Newland, Hull, has started webcasting its services. Melvin Tinker, Vicar of St John's, tells us about it:

"Webcasting is broadcasting sound and pictures using the internet. It is a common practice today for all sorts of things, for example, You Tube and BBC iPlayer. Each week the main services from St John’s are broadcast and recordings of whole services are made available via the website for 1 week while the sermons are permanently available as video.

This has proved ideal for people unable to come to church who can now benefit from not only the preaching ministry, but also the music, intercessions and other aspects of a service. Here are a couple of quotes from users:

"Just to say thanks for setting up the link on the church site to join services live on-line. My dad is thrilled. Modern technology is great when it’s used well.”

“Just to say a big thank you from the bottom of my heart for enabling me to be able to watch the church service from home. If this was not available then I would feel cut off, it has been great to be there live and to feel part of the church again. I feel every Sunday that I am there, it is so great. Having the song words on the screen is great because I can also sing along too.”
