The Archbishop of York is to co-host Prom Praise York with the renowned All Souls Orchestra for an evening of classical and gospel music, praise and worship at York Barbican.

On Saturday 3rd October, the musicians of the All Souls Orchestra and director, Noël Tredinnick, will be bringing their flagship event, 'Prom Praise' from London, to God's own county. Prom Praise combines the spirit of Songs of Praise with the style of the world-famous Last Night of the Proms.

Joining the Archbishop and orchestra on-stage will be a stellar line-up of special guests. Gospel artist Beverley Trotman rose to fame as a finalist ITV's X Factor in 2007, and will be treating the audience to a rendition of Nina Simone's Feelin' Good. Trumpeter Giles Fowler will take the lead for the virtuosic solo piece 'Carnival of Venice'. There will also be music from young, local talent in the form of the Chamber Choir of St Aidan's School, Harrogate. Familiar with the big stage, they have previously won the accolade of Songs of Praise Senior Choir of the Year. The choir will form the core of a chorus of 120 singers, drawn from churches across North Yorkshire, who with Beverley will lead the hall in praise, singing a range of traditional hymns and modern worship songs.

The choir for the evening is being recruited and rehearsed by York GP and musician, Dr Helen Warry. A violinist with the All Souls Orchestra, Helen told us, 'This is a fantastic opportunity to come together in celebration of God's gift of music. Hearing the sound of a full symphony orchestra is an amazing experience - there will be moments of beautiful, calm reflection in the music, and others of life-affirming zest and energy. The Prom Praise York choir sang at the Royal Albert Hall with the All Souls Orchestra earlier this year, and are tremendously excited to be bringing this concert to our own city, with all its rich Christian heritage.'
