Deliverance Ministry

Guidelines for Clergy

The Archbishop of York has authorised a team of ministers to support parish clergy in their work of pastoral care and support.

The team will assist in discerning the source or cause of disturbing experiences and in determining appropriate ways of resolving them. The purpose of deliverance ministry is to make real to those who might feel possessed, oppressed or afraid the love and peace that God intends for all people, through the work of Jesus Christ and his Church.

The team works within the professional boundaries of the Church of England and with an approved Code of Practice.

For protection:

Christ within me,

and restore me.

Christ in mouth
of friend and stranger.

For a house:

Visit this place, O Lord, we pray, and drive far from it the snares of the enemy;
may your holy angels dwell with us and guard us in peace,
and may your blessing be always upon us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A blessing:

The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds
in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
be upon you and remain with you always. Amen.
