‘Living a Christ-Centred life’

Mon 23rd – Thurs 26th Sept 2019

at Wydale Hall

Retreat Conductor

Bishop Bill Godfrey

Living a Christ-Centred Life

Sharing his reflections as a missionary Bishop, Bill’s approach in leading this retreat is to encourage participants to re-visit themes at the heart of the Christian message that, over the years, have become central and precious to him: Jesus the Christ, anointed with the Spirit; praying to the Father; hearing and doing God’s word; Christ’s presence in word, sacrament and the poor; Christ love for the Church; and the Holy Spirit’s empowering for mission.

Bill Godfrey

Bill was ordained priest in 1972 in Southwell Diocese. He served in Nottinghamshire as a parish priest and bishop’s ecumenical officer, and in 1986 he and his family went as a USPG missionaries to South America. There he became the first Bishop of Uruguay (1987-98) and later Bishop of Peru (1998-2013). His focus was largely planting churches, social outreach work among the poor, in founding schools, and in seminaries for national clergy. He now serves as incumbent of the Lastingham group of churches within this diocese.

The Christian Faith and prayer have been central to his life, and he has been involved in the Jesus Caritas Fraternity of Priests, the Focolare Movement, inter-religious work in Peru and Uruguay (among Christians, Jews and Muslims), the Bible Society of Peru, and the Evangelism and Church Growth Initiative of the Anglican Communion. He is a Benedictine Oblate and Bishop Emeritus of Peru.

Wydale Hall is set in 14 acres with stunning views over the Dale.

All retreatants will have their own en suite room with tea/coffee making facilities. The chapel remains at the heart of the Hall and will be available for personal prayer and reflection throughout the retreat.

The grounds include a sensory prayer walk and a Labyrinth in the walled garden based on the Chartres design.

The cost of the retreat is £80. This is approximately a third of the actual rate, being supported by the Diocesan training budget.

(Serving clergy can claim up to the equivalent of one year’s CMD allowance within a triennium (i.e. £240) towards the costs of retreats.)
