All are invited to a Mental Health Awareness Day on Saturday 22nd June at St Columba's United Reformed Church, York.

Statistics state that 1 in 4 of us will suffer from mental ill-health at some point during our lives, yet the subject is still surrounded by fear, embarrassment and silence. This is something I have become very passionate about changing, and wholeheartedly believe that as the church, the more aware and open we are, the better prepared and equipped we can become to respond to those around us who are suffering and help end the stigma surrounding mental health.

The day will be led by Rev'd Annie Rowley, who will describe, in easy terms, the many different types of mental distress we may encounter within ourselves and/or others. Annie will offer guidance on how to discern both mental health and spiritual issues, and give helpful tips and information on how to respond and signpost people most appropriately. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions.

Annie is an ordained Anglican Priest, with over 20 years experience as a mental health chaplain. In January she retired as chaplain to York St john University, and is currently studying for a Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology.

The day will begin at 10am, and end at 3pm. Lunch will be provided, and there will be no charge for the day. To ensure that there is enough food it would be helpful to know numbers and dietary requirements in advance if at all possible.
