All Saints' Church at Thorpe Bassett, near Malton, is holding a special event on Saturday 22nd June – and they’re asking everyone to bring a bunch of fresh flowers. “We want to celebrate the lives of everyone buried in our churchyard, and give thanks for everything they have done, and their families continue to do, for the life of the village” explained Rex North, one of the event co-ordinators “ and we think the best way to do this is to honour their memory by asking people to bring fresh flowers to put by every headstone. We’d like to make the churchyard a ‘Sea of Flowers” he added.

The event will also feature music, activities for children, stalls a tombola, and a 'guess the name of the sheep' competition.

Additionally there will be a new venture for the village called ‘Thorpe Bassett Rocks’; come along and decorate some stones before finding somewhere to place them for others to discover.

All proceeds from the day will go towards the charity Water Aid, in memory of congregation member Pamela Wild.

The event starts at 10 am, running through to the early afternoon. Parking is available; admission is free, but everyone is asked bring some flowers ,and there will be a warm welcome!
