Children and young people are fully human and fully loved by God and can be as fully Christian as adults can. They are not the church of tomorrow - they are the Church today.

In 2007 Diocesan Synod voted to accept ‘Fully Alive in God – A Diocesan Commitment to Children and Young People’. This commitment is now included by the Archdeacons in their quinquennial visits to parishes, and parishes are expected to be able to show how they have responded to it.

The Children and Youth Team are using ‘Fully Alive in God’ as a focus for their work. It can also provide a framework for all parishes in whatever contact they might have with children and young people. Our aim is to provide opportunities for children and young people in each of the five sections:

  • Experiencing God
  • Developing a relationship with God
  • Helping to further God's Kingdom
  • Caring for God's creation
  • Being valued by and valuing Church

We have reproduced ‘Fully Alive in God’ in a format that we hope will be easier for people to make sense of it – you should start to recognise the logo too!

You can download a copy of the leaflet

Please feel free to display it in your church buildings and pass it on to as many people as you can. You can also download a copy of the review leaflet which provides a series of questions to help PCCs or congregations to think through what ‘Fully Alive in God’ might mean in practice in the parish.

If you would like some more information about ‘Fully Alive in God’ or to discuss what it might mean in your parish please do contact the team.

Children and young people are not just the responsibility of the youth worker or Sunday School leaders but of the whole church community. Let us think carefully about how we can ALL take our responsibility to children and young people seriously – even if there aren’t any in our church.
