Thirty participants gathered online on Tuesday evening, 19th September, for the first session of the Deepening Discipleship Project, the Diocese of York’s new flagship Lay Ministry formation pathway.

They were joined by their mentors in context to hear details of the project and begin their exciting journey of discernment and formation.

The Deepening Discipleship Project is part of the Diocesan Renewal of Lay Ministries and compromises four key elements of applied learning in context, mentoring, gathered sessions and online reflection sessions throughout the ten months.

Diocesan Start of Lay Ministries Adviser Julia Robertson said, "It is so exciting to see the fruits of the Lay Ministries Renewal coming to bear.

"The group on Tuesday were enthusiastic and hopeful about the possibilities God has opened up for them in their churches and communities around our Diocese."

Tuesday evening marked the beginning of the first, pilot cohort of thirty people who will be enabled to grow in confidence in their ministry where they are.

A second and third cohort will follow after Christmas owing to the huge response for places.
