Malton-based 'Multiply Minister' Hendrik Klaver is going to Sheffield to collect an e-Cargo bike newly-bought for conversion into a mobile pop-up café - and bring it home by an 88-mile sponsored ride.
Hendrik leads 'OMG', a diverse Christian community of families and young adults in Malton where everyone is welcome, supported by the Diocese of York's 'Multiply' project.
"We plan to use the e-Cargo bike as a "mobile pop-up café", offering free coffee and tea at places where we want to connect with people (such as the school gate) but possibly also at some local events," explains Hendrik.
"We still need to raise a thousand pounds to turn it into an OMG mobile Café, so I will cycle the e-Cargo bike from Sheffield through the Howardian Hills to Malton over Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of September, which is 88 miles.
"The churches of Carlton and Drax will welcome me into the Diocese of York on Saturday evening, put me up overnight and send me off in the morning."
Supporters from OMG will accompany Hendrik on Sunday, and the 'Biking Bishop of Selby', the Rt Revd John Thomson, will join on his bike from Barlby (Selby) to Fulford (York).
Hendrik will reach the edge of the Deanery of Southern Ryedale at Sand Hutton early on Sunday afternoon, and continue through the picturesque Derwent valley to reach Malton at about 4.00pm. He will be welcomed by the town and parish with traditional tea and cake at St Michael's Church - all welcome to join.
OMG hopes for support for Hendrik's epic journey and for the mobile pop-up café plan: "We managed to acquire this bike and we now need people's help to get it fit and equipped for its intended purpose," Hendrik explains.
