As the sun emerged from behind the clouds in Wharram-le-Street (on the Wolds between Malton and Driffield) on the Saturday afternoon of our 'Come and See' Mission (12-15 March), Lorna Heatley joined members of St Mary’s Church hosting a ‘Walking church’ with Celtic-style worship before and after the "somewhat muddy" walk to the Medieval village of Wharram Percy.

A truly communal event, this walk saw people who had never met becoming fast friends, and punctuated by a calm moment of silence around the old Mill Pond truly to appreciate God’s creation.

Upon arrival back at St Mary’s, all gathered around again to share what they had learned on the walk.

The most popular comment was on the quality of the home-made biscuits that were shared in the shell of the old church at Wharram Percy, but there were also comments on the fresh community spirit, the beauty of the world around us, and the peace with which people found themselves surrounded.
