Nearly 300 people signed up to take part in sixteen online events making up "Strength in Numbers - we're in this together", the 13-17 November 2023 Safeguarding Week run by the Diocese of York and York Minster.

'Strength in Numbers ~ we're in this together' is this year's Safeguarding Week brought by the Diocese of York with York Minster; thirteen online events over five days to add to the regular safeguarding training offered to so many by the Diocese.

16 days of activism: It’s not just black eyes and bruises
The Church of England is supporting the international campaign for 16 days of activism to end gender-based violence, as newly released figures show that there has been a 37% increase in reports of domestic abuse to diocesan safeguarding advisers over the past three years (2019-2021).

Safeguarding Past Cases Review 2 – Diocese of York
The Church of England has today published its report on the safeguarding ‘Past Cases Review 2’ (PCR2), a national independent review of the handling of safeguarding cases in the Church of England over many years. The purpose of the PCR2 is to ensure that all known cases of concerns about the behaviour of clergy and church officers towards children and vulnerable adults have been dealt with appropriately.

Diocesan Policy on Bullying & Harassment launched
The Diocese of York has adopted a Policy on Bullying and Harrassment to encourage behaviours and practices to eliminate both harassment and bullying from relationships and interactions in parishes and within the diocesan administration.

Shaping our Present and our Future ~ great response to Safeguarding Week
465 people from parishes and churches between the Tees and the Humber and from the A1 to the Yorkshire Coast have taken part in one or more of 23 online events and an in-person meeting at Bishopthorpe Palace during 'Everyone's Business', the first-ever Safeguarding Week held by the Diocese of York with York Minster from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th November.

It's Not Okay - A Free Seminar
‘It’s Not Okay’ is a joint initiative between York Safeguarding Children Board and the NSPCC to raise awareness and understanding about child sexual abuse and exploitation. To support the campaign, there will be a free seminar on Tuesday 24 May titled 'Supporting local communities to respond to the issue of child sexual abuse'.

50 Returns of the Parish Self-Audit!
The Safeguarding Team at the Diocese of York is delighted to have received 50 parish self-audit returns, a full 9 days ahead of the requested completion date. Although there are still many more to come in, we are extremely grateful for all the hard work by PSRs, PCC members and incumbents so far.

SCIE to Conduct Independent Inspection of the Diocese of York in June
The National Archbishop’s Council has agreed that each Diocese should undertake a Safeguarding Audit during 2016 or 2017. We have been notified that the independent inspection of Safeguarding in the Diocese of York, by the Social Care Institute for Excellence, will take place in June.
