Nearly 300 people signed up to take part in sixteen online events making up "Strength in Numbers - we're in this together", the 13-17 November 2023 Safeguarding Week run by the Diocese of York and York Minster.

'Strength in Numbers ~ we're in this together' is this year's Safeguarding Week brought by the Diocese of York with York Minster; thirteen online events over five days to add to the regular safeguarding training offered to so many by the Diocese.

The Church of England is supporting the international campaign for 16 days of activism to end gender-based violence, as newly released figures show that there has been a 37% increase in reports of domestic abuse to diocesan safeguarding advisers over the past three years (2019-2021).

The Church of England has today published its report on the safeguarding ‘Past Cases Review 2’ (PCR2), a national independent review of the handling of safeguarding cases in the Church of England over many years. The purpose of the PCR2 is to ensure that all known cases of concerns about the behaviour of clergy and church officers towards children and vulnerable adults have been dealt with appropriately.

The National Archbishop’s Council has agreed that each Diocese should undertake a Safeguarding Audit during 2016 or 2017. We have been notified that the independent inspection of Safeguarding in the Diocese of York, by the Social Care Institute for Excellence, will take place in June.
