Dave's Story

My name is Dave, I was born in Hull and have lived here all my life. I was married at Holy Trinity Church in 1970, and have just celebrated my golden wedding anniversary, sadly without my wife who has passed on. I am an avid Hull City supporter and 50 years on have not yet got over getting married at 3pm when we were kicking off against Millwall! I have a son and daughter and three grandchildren.

I started work on the fish dock as an apprentice shipwright but moved to Smith & Nephew to work in the pharmaceutical laboratory. I then did 22 years as a bus driver working for Hull City Transport before moving to White Arrow Express working as a parcel delivery driver until my retirement.

I became a Christian about five years ago. Although I have always believed in God, I never really followed a Church going life until I attended my grandsons christening and I realised that this was what was missing from my life.

I am a member of the East Yorkshire branch of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and attend Biker Rallies where we run Holy Joe's tea and coffee tents round the clock during the event. We distribute free Biker bibles to anyone who wants one. Two years ago, the branch attended the European Motorcyclists for Christ rally in Holland near Amsterdam, with Christian bikers from all over Europe as well as Russia and Israel.

I worship at St Peters Wawne, where I am the Bell Ringer and do Bible readings. I am an RPA and am involved in voluntary work in the community cafe at St Margaret’s Church on Longhill.
