The Reverend David Biggs has been appointed as Assistant Area Dean of Mowbray for a period of five years from 14th May 2025. He will be commissioned by the Bishop of Whitby at St Oswald’s Church, Sowerby on Wednesday 14th May at 9.30am.
The Reverend Paul Burnett, Assistant Curate in the Benefice of Whitby with Ruswarp, has been re-appointed Assistant Curate in the Benefice of Whitby with Ruswarp and will be known locally as Assistant Priest. He will be licensed by the Bishop of Whitby in the parish church of St John’s Church, Whitby on Thursday 8th May at 9.00am.
The Reverend Elaine Curry, Assistant Curate in North Ormesby, has been appointed as Assistant Curate of the Benefice of Ingleby Barwick until 16th May 2027. She will be licensed by Bishop of Whitby at 21 Thornton Road, Stainton, Middlesbrough, TS8 9DS on Tuesday 6th May 2025 at 9.00am.
The Reverend Margaret Gallagher, Vicar of the Benefice of Welton with Melton, has been appointed as Area Dean of Howden for a period of 5 years. She will be commissioned by the Bishop of Hull at the parish church of St Leonard Molescroft, Beverley on Wednesday 14th May.
The Reverend Canon Liz Hassall, Rector of the Benefices of York All Saints, Pavement with St Crux, St Michael Spurriergate, York St Olave with St Giles, York St Helen Stonegate with St Martin Coney Street & York St Denys and Associate Area Dean of York, is to serve additionally as Acting Archdeacon of York, following the departure of the Venerable Sam Rushton. Canon Liz was commissioned by the Archbishop of York at Bishopthorpe Palace on Wednesday 26th March 2025, and took up her responsibilities on 1st April.
The Reverend John Hoyland, Assistant Curate at Clifton Benefice and Assistant Curate at Heworth Christ Church Benefice, has resigned to be CMD and Lifelong Learning Adviser with a General Preacher’s Licence in the Diocese of York. He will be licensed by the Bishop of Selby in the Chapel at York diocesan office on Thursday 8th May at 10.30am.
The Reverend Alison Hutchinson, currently Assistant Curate of the Benefice of Weaverthorpe with Helperthorpe, Luttons Ambo & Kirby Grindalythe with Wharram, has been appointed as Assistant Curate of the Benefice of Haxby and Wigginton until 24th June 2026. She will be licensed by Bishop of Selby in the parish church of St Nicholas, Wigginton on Thursday 1st May at 5.00pm.
The Reverend Captain Malcolm Jackson, Vicar of the Benefice of Hinderwell, Roxby and Staithes with Lythe, Ugthorpe and Sandsend, will retire on 31st August 2025. His final service will be in the Parish Church of St Hilda’s, Hinderwell, on Sunday 10th August.
The Reverend Ian Jones, Rector of Kirkheaton St John the Baptist, with Grange Moor St Bartholomew, in the Diocese of Leeds, has been appointed as Interim Priest-in-Charge of the Benefice of Heworth Christ Church in the Diocese of York for 3 years. He will be licensed by the Bishop of Selby in the parish church of Christ Church, Heworth on Wednesday 4th June at 7.30pm.
The Reverend Dr Timothy Kelly, Rector of The Benefice of Walkington, Bishop Burton, Rowley and Skidby, has been appointed by the Bishop of Hull to serve additionally as Area Dean of Beverley for a period of 5 years with effect from Wednesday 14th May. Dr Kelly succeeds the Revd Richard Parkinson. He will be commissioned at St Leonard, Molescroft, Beverley on Wednesday 14th May 2025.
The Reverend Lynda Kenny, who holds the Archbishop’s Permission to Officiate,
has been appointed as Assistant Curate of the Benefice of Emmanuel Bridlington and Barmston with Fraisthorpe. She will be licensed by the Bishop of Hull at Hullen House in a private ceremony on Thursday 8th May 2025 at 10.00am.
The Reverend Peter King, Assistant Curate of Coatham and Dormanstown, has resigned to be Vicar of Catterick with Tunstall in the Diocese of Leeds with effect from 18th June 2025. The date of his final service will be Sunday 25th May 2025.
The Reverend Canon Tanya Lord, Lead Chaplain of Lincolnshire Police in the Diocese of Lincoln, has been appointed as Vicar of the Benefice of Kingston upon Hull, St Nicholas. The collation by the Bishop of Hull will be held in the parish church of St Nicholas, Hull on Wednesday 16th July at 7.30pm.
The Reverend Mary Rolls, Multiply Minister in the Benefice of Thirsk has been appointed as Rector of the Benefice of Thirsk. The collation by the Bishop of Whitby will be held in the parish church of St Mary’s, Thirsk on Wednesday 18th June at 7.30pm. Additionally, she has been re-commissioned by the Bishop of Whitby as Area Dean of Mowbray for a further period of five years with effect from 28th April 2025.
Mr Martin Sheppard, Diocesan Director of Communications and Parish Resourcing, retired on 17th April. 👋
The Reverend John Swinhoe, Priest in Charge of the Benefice of North Thornaby, has been appointed additionally as Lead Chaplain to Cleveland Police in a voluntary capacity. He will be licensed by the Bishop of Whitby in the presence of the Acting Chief Constable at 21 Thornton Road, Stainton, Middlesbrough, TS8 9DS on Tuesday 3rd June 2025 at 10.00am.
The Reverend Anne White, Assistant Curate (known as Associate Minister) of the Benefice of Great and Little Driffield; Langtoft with Foxholes, Butterwick, Cottam and Thwing and of the Waggoners Benefice, will be relicensed for a further period of two years. She will be licenced by the Bishop of Hull in a private ceremony at Hullen House on Thursday 24th July at 2.00pm.
