As part of Safeguarding Week 2026, the Diocese of York and York Minster invite you to a candlelit walk on Thursday 19th November 2026.
This walk is an opportunity to stand alongside victims and survivors, acknowledge the harm caused by abuse, and affirm that no one should have to carry their experiences alone.
Whether you have been affected by abuse, are supporting someone you care about, work in safeguarding, or wish to show your solidarity, you are welcome. You do not need to speak about your experiences or take part in any activity. You can walk with others, observe quietly, or leave at any time.
The walk will begin outside York Minster and continue at a comfortable pace to the Spurriergate Centre. Participants are invited to walk in quiet reflection and remembrance. Support will be available for anyone who needs it.
At the Spurriergate Centre, refreshments will be available. You can also choose to:
- Write a message of reflection, prayer, or hope.
- Tie a ribbon on the Tree of Hope as a sign of support and solidarity.
- Find information from organisations offering support and guidance.
As space at the Spurriergate Centre is limited, registration through Eventbrite is required. Names and emails will be collected purely for planning purposes and will be held securely. Please book a free ticket and bring the registration details with you (e.g. on your phone or printed).

Reflecting on abuse can bring up difficult thoughts or memories. Support is available whether or not you attend the walk.
