Join Archbishop Stephen Cottrell and our bishops for a series of Lent lectures exploring what it means to celebrate, commend, and share our baptismal faith.
One Faith, One Baptism will take place across five Wednesday evenings in Lent, beginning on Wednesday 17 February 2027. Archbishop Stephen will host the first lecture, with further details of speakers, venues, and booking arrangements to follow.
The lectures will be held in venues across the diocese and will also be livestreamed, enabling people to take part either in person or online.
The series forms part of the Diocese of York’s ‘Year of Baptism’ and marks the anniversary of the baptism in York by Bishop Paulinus of King Edwin, the first King of Northumbria to profess the Christian faith.
Across the five lectures, our speakers will invite reflection on the promises made at baptism and what they mean for us as people called to live Christ’s story today. The series will explore what it means to turn to Christ, repent of our sins, renounce evil, profess our faith, and share that faith with confidence, humility, and hope.
These lectures are open to all who want to go deeper in faith and help others do the same, and will be especially helpful for those active in their churches and communities.
Each lecture will stand alone, but we warmly encourage people to attend the full series where possible. The dates for your diary are:
