About the Multiply Project
Multiply was part of Living Christ’s Story, helping churches and local leaders join in God’s mission of love in and for the world.
Over six years, Multiply supported leaders and teams to create new worshipping communities across the Diocese of York, with a particular focus on people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. The settings ranged from rural to urban, from families to young adults and students. In each location, the missional work was shaped and formed by listening to the contexts, individuals, and communities.
The project worked through three main strands:
- Ministers: full-time ministers in 11 locations across the diocese, pioneering new worshipping communities.
- Lay Leaders: part-time and volunteer lay leaders working with teams to reach people not currently part of a church community.
- Planting and revitalising: St Michael-le-Belfrey trained and equipped curates to be sent out with a team to revitalise a parish or plant a new church.
Multiply Pioneers have reached hundreds of new people across the diocese, and launched small but significant new worshipping communities. The starting point has always been prayer and often been through making connections, meeting for coffees, and through acts of service in and often with the local community, everything from toddler groups, seasonal events, food banks, and cafe spaces
