Safeguarding and the Church – what do you think? – INEQE Audit

Worshippers, parishioners and church members throughout the Church of England are invited to take part in an independent Safeguarding Audit commissioned by the national church, to ensure that every diocese and church is doing all it can to create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

How to take part

There is an online survey which invites individuals to comment on any safeguarding matters within the Audit’s focus. The survey is anonymous and confidential – you won’t be asked who you are, so that you can be open and honest in your responses.

You can access the online survey at: ineqe.com/churchofengland/york.

It’s open now, and will continue until 11.30pm on Friday 3rd January 2025.

What happens to the answers you give?

The responses you give will be received directly by the Safeguarding Audit Team at INEQE Safeguarding Group, the independent organisation conducting the audit on behalf of the Church of England.

Please circulate this message widely within your parish.

Thank you for taking part in this piece of work to help the church in its journey to becoming a safer place for all. INEQE looks forward to hearing from you; everyone is welcome to share your views and experiences with them through the survey.

  • Contacting the Audit Team
If you wish to share any further information or if you would be interested in taking part in a focus group you can contact the Audit direct team via ineqe.com/churchofengland/york/#contact. This is monitored only by INEQE’s Audit team.
  • Disclosures
The only time an individual’s confidential engagement with the Audit Team might be breached would be in the event of a disclosure of suspected harm to a child, an adult at risk, or of criminal conduct. In such circumstances the information will only be shared with the appropriate statutory agency.

PSO Drop in sessions

Our drop in sessions are run over zoom, typically at lunch times but also with the occasional evening session. They are an opportunity for an in-formal one-to-one discussion with one the Safeguarding Advisers to discuss any general matters or specific concerns. You will be able to speak to one of the Safeguarding Advisors – someone will let you into the zoom meeting as soon as they are available. Dates and times for 2025 will be advertised soon.
