A new Pocket Guide, a collection of short prayers, and a poster for church notice boards – all to help church communities engage with our Diocesan Rhythm of Life – have been published this week.
Offering a framework for growing a culture of everyday faith, the Diocese of York’s Rhythm of Life is a simple call to discipleship, enabling each of us to be intentional about growing in our faith through adopting certain spiritual practices. The Rhythm of Life is designed to be a creative and flexible framework for living, shaped around prayer, scripture, worship, loving one another, living generously, sharing faith with others, and having patterns of rest.
The new Pocket Guide is for anyone seeking to find out more about the Rhythm of Life, reflect on its spiritual practices, and adopt these intentionally as churches, homes, communities, and individuals. The booklet journeys through each practice with a passage of Scripture, a short reflection, a question to reflect on, and a concluding prayer. It can be used either for individual reflection or in small groups to explore, discuss, and pray together.
In order to have something visual for churches, the poster offers a simple reminder of the practices that form our Rhythm of Life, and how we each commit to and support each other in them. Meanwhile, members of the Diocesan Worship Working Group crafted the new collection of short prayers, which can also be used by individuals, churches, or in small groups.
Sammi Tooze, Diocesan Discipleship Adviser, comments,
“It’s been a joy to see how well the diocesan Rhythm of Life has been adopted across the Diocese of York in recent years, and to hear stories of growing discipleship and everyday faith coming out from that. As we grow in Living Christ’s Story, these new materials are a great opportunity for us to all engage in growing a culture of everyday faith, and for us to discern how the Rhythm of Life practices shape us as missional disciples.
“It is wonderful to see the Church of England nationally focusing on life-giving habits this coming Lent, which offers us a great opportunity to engage with our own Rhythm of Life this season and beyond.”
All resources are available as PDFs below or on the Rhythm of Life webpage, and any churches or deaneries who would like printed copies or a conversation about Rhythm of Life can contact Sammi.
