The Journey Through the Bible Collective worship resources this year are based on an exploration of The Lord’s Prayer. Each half term will take one line of the prayer and use Bible stories and Christian examples to examine a related theme:
Autumn Term 1
Love
Autumn Term 2
Justice, Service and Charity
Spring Term 1
Courage, Trust and Faith
Spring Term 2
Forgiveness and Mercy
Summer Term 1
Truth and Wisdom
Summer Term 2
Peace and hope
Each half term will be resourced with five outlines for Collective worship, which reflect the material covered in the Diocese of York Journey Through the Bible Family Calendar which we hope children and their families will be accessing at home and/or church. One will be an explanation of the line of the Lord’s prayer and theological theme (LP). Three will be based on biblical examples – one each from the Old and New Testament (OT, NT), and one from Jesus’ teaching (JS). The fifth session will illustrate the theme lived out by a Christian Saint or a contemporary individual or community (CE).
We have provided a Bible timeline to help you make connections with the last year’s journey Through the Bible and to support pupils understanding of where the stories and themes sit in the big story of the Bible. Include the Bible timeline from the calendar here. We have also provided a poster to introduce the Lord’s Prayer and the themes we will look at over the year that could be used as part of a classroom or central display.
Each week will provide a brief overview and suggested content /resources to help you plan your collective worship. We would encourage you to plan using the Gather, Engage, Respond and Send (GERS) model the Diocese of York Collective Worship Guidance.
As usual we will be providing resources for the church year including: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Ascension Day and Pentecost – or signposting you to recommended resources produced by other agencies.
