The Diocese of York has published a collection of resources to encourage churches and individuals to engage with Advent and Christmas.
Following the lead of the Church of England, the Diocese of York will follow the theme of ‘calm and bright’, taking inspiration from the well-known carol, Silent Night. The angelic messages we encounter in the biblical story of Jesus’ birth typically hold together the need for calm in the present (“Do not be afraid” … “Fear not”) with the hope of a bright future (“for you have found favour with God” … “for behold I bring you tidings of great joy”).
Curated by the Diocesan Prayer, Spirituality and Everyday Faith Working Group, the collection of resources include books, poetry, and reflections, as well as podcasts, daily activities and reflective images. There is also a dedicated collection for engaging with children and young people, from collective worship to videos.
In covering many learning styles and all ages, it is hoped that there will be something in the resource hub for everyone.
O God of peace,
on whom our souls wait in silence;
renew in our hearts an inner stillness,
as we seek to treasure your Word made flesh
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
