There are 122 Church of England Schools in the Diocese of York.
Each one of these schools has a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) inspection once in a five-year period.
SIAMS inspection explores the ways in which each school’s theologically rooted Christian vision drives its work and enables the school to live up to its foundation as a Church school. It does so by seeking to answer several key questions, including:
- How does the school’s theologically rooted Christian vision enable pupils and adults to flourish?
- How is collective worship enabling pupils and adults to flourish spiritually?
- How does the school’s theologically rooted Christian vision create a culture in which pupils and adults are treated well?
SIAMS inspection focuses on the impact of the Church school’s Christian vision on pupils and adults.
A few quotes from recent inspections in the Diocese of York:
- “The Christian vision with its strong biblical roots is clearly understood and articulated by the whole school community. Led by a passionate headteacher, leaders ensure the vision is at the core of every aspect of school life.”
- “Inspired by their vision, staff welcome pupils as unique seeds. The development of the whole child is paramount. Talents are recognised and nourished and as a result all flourish as compassionate and confident learners.”
- “Pupils and adults value the many invitational opportunities to come together for celebration, reflection and prayer. As a result, collective worship contributes significantly to spiritual flourishing.“
- “Well planned religious education (RE) ensures a sequenced and balanced curriculum which enables pupils to flourish. It develops a good knowledge of major religions and Christianity as a global faith.”
Please hold headteachers and their staff in your prayers as they seek to live out their Chirstian foundation with the children and adults of the school community.
