Who we are

The Diocese of York is the Church of England between the Rivers Humber and Tees, and from the Yorkshire coast westwards to around the A1. We are seeking to Live Christ’s Story by becoming more like Christ, reaching people we currently don’t, growing churches of missionary disciples, and transforming our finances and structures.

What we’re looking for

At the heart of this strategy is the enabling of churches to engage in God’s mission to the whole of life and to ensure that the diocese has the right kinds of lay and ordained ministries to enable churches to serve God’s mission. This role is key to delivering the strategy and we are looking for a courageous, wise and collaborative colleague who can, with others, invest energy, time and direction into this renewal of ministry.

About the role

You will be strategic yet collaborative, accountable for your work while supporting others. You will recognise and nurture others’ gifts, advocating for their well-being. With persistence, you will help reshape our approach to vocations, emphasising lay and self-supporting roles alongside ordained ministry. We aim to widen access, empowering those who feel excluded from ministry and encouraging younger generations to explore diverse ministry paths.

We are committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion and especially welcome applications from disabled candidates and those from UKME heritage as these groups are under-represented in our staff.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All employees are expected to share this commitment. A DBS check is required for this post, and you will be required to undertake safeguarding training.

Only fully completed applications through Pathways will be accepted; applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
