Governance Professional

Salary: £22.36 (Freelance) or Part-time on Pay Scale Grade L

Contract Type: Flexible – either employed on a self-employed basis or by the Trust

Vacancy Hours: Term time + 2 weeks, circa. 7 hours per week to included evening board meetings (Trust)

Location: Hybrid working, a combination of home-working and meetings in schools

Start Date: Spring/Summer 2026

Role Purpose

Selby Educational Trust is a growing MAT with 6 primary schools located in and around Selby and East Leeds. All schools are graded as ‘Good’ or better.

The Lead Governance Professional oversees all aspects of governance effectiveness and compliance within the trust, ensures governance adheres to good practice and meets all statutory and regulatory requirements, and provides strategic leadership of services that support governance across the trust

    • supporting the efficient and effective operation of the trust board and its committees
    • ensuring governance at all levels is carrying out its functions
    • leading on development of the trust’s governance framework and driving improvements to its systems, processes and structures
    • managing and coordinating the delivery and ongoing improvement of governance support across the trust

The lead governance professional also provides clerking services to 2 schools within the trust and carries out the responsibilities of the company secretary
