The Garrowby Hill Benefice comprises five rural parishes, all with listed buildings in very picturesque settings but what sets us apart is not the buildings, but the Church – God’s people living and working in those parishes. We are committed, supportive and active in trying to live out “Christ’s Story” and we want someone who will help us to grow further and develop deeper our faith and ministry in the places we live.
Ecumenically we are a mixed bunch and this is one of our strengths and part of our tradition with the patron being involved in the Malines Conversations. Our worship includes both formal sacramental services and informal family worship. This means people can find a home and their Christian faith nurtured. A fifth Sunday Benefice service encourages people to experience different styles of worship.
Bishop WIlton, the location of the Rectory, has recently been voted fifth in a list of 20 best secret villages to live in. “The Times”.
Garrowby Hill benefice includes the parishes of Bishop Wilton, Bugthorpe, Full Sutton, Kirby Underdale and Skirpenbeck and is situated 25 minutes east of York; close to the market towns of Pocklington and Malton and to the Yorkshire coast.

The Diocese of York
The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast; as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.

Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.
