The Revd Dianne Gamble has been appointed by the Archbishop of York as the Bishops’ Adviser for Women’s Ministry. Following a career in the Railway Industry, Dianne was ordained as a priest in 2016, and currently serves as the Priest in Charge of five benefices in Mowbray Deanery.

In her new role, Dianne will promote and champion both lay and ordained women’s ministries in the Diocese of York. She will support and advise our bishops, advocating for the full inclusion, flourishing, and equality of ordained women in every part of church life. Dianne’s work will also focus on ensuring Diocesan policies reflect best practices concerning women in ministry.

Dianne first sensed God calling her to ministry as a new Christian in her early 20s. Initially licensed as a Lay Minister whilst working at the National Railway Museum (NRM), Dianne later felt God calling her to ordained ministry during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Reflecting on Dianne’s appointment, Stephen Cottrell, the Archbishop of York, said, “I’m thrilled that Dianne will be joining us as our Adviser for Women’s Ministry. Dianne brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to this much-needed role, and I look forward to working with her in our shared commitment for women to flourish in the ministries God has called them to.”

Dianne said, “I am looking forward to supporting and encouraging women in ministry. It is exciting to be able to step in and be a means for the lived experiences of women ministering in our diocese to be heard and understood by our bishops.  By working together, I hope that we can unlock more of the gifts and talents of those women worshiping and leading in our churches so that they can flourish and see the kingdom grow in those places. Please pray as I make connections with women across the diocese that they will feel supported.”
