Caring for your church and churchyard
Our church buildings are the visible, tangible sign of a Christian presence in every community. Their upkeep can indeed be challenging, but they are also an open door, a place of refuge, a house of prayer, a worship space, the place from which we go out to serve our neighbours, and the place to which we invite them to join us in Living Christ’s Story.
About the DAC
The DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches) advises the Archbishop, the Chancellor, the Archdeacons, PCCs and petitioners on applications for permission to carry out works to church buildings and churchyards.
Quinquennial Inspections
The Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and Care of Churches Measure 2018 requires each Diocese to have a scheme for the inspection, by suitably qualified and experienced professional advisers, of all the churches in the diocese.
Faculty Permissions
If you are planning to carry out maintenance, repairs, alterations or improvements to your church building, its contents or its churchyard you may need approval from your Archdeacon or full faculty authorisation from the Chancellor.
