Loans & Grants

Read about loans and grants that support parishes in our Diocese

The Diocesan Board of Finance offers a Parish Loan Scheme to help parishes complete building works and enable mission projects – you can see more details on this below.

In addition to this, the Archdeacons are able to approve modest grants to parishes in the Diocese of York towards building-related costs, or local projects that support the strategy for growth, where there is insufficient local income or reserves to pay for them

The church buildings section of the website also sets out details of a range of grants that may be available to support your church/parish.

Diocesan Loans

The Diocesan Board of Finance offers a Parish Loan Scheme to help parishes complete building works and enable mission projects.

The Parish Loan Scheme allows parishes to borrow money to help complete building works to churches or church buildings, and to enable mission projects which supports growth in one of our five marks – Christlike-ness, Commitment, Partnership, Influence and Numbers.

The Diocesan Board of Finance has set aside a sum of money from the Pastoral Account for these loans, to allow for loans up to the sum of £20,000.

Please download the document below for more information and an application form.

Diocesan Small Grants for Parishes

The Archdeacons of Cleveland, East Riding and York are able to approve modest grants to parishes in the Diocese of York towards building-related costs, or local projects that support the strategy for growth, where there is insufficient local income or reserves to pay for them.

These grants are not to be used to pay staff costs and applications should be supported by a brief summary of the project or problem, together with a statement of the current financial position of the PCC.

Return completed form to your Archdeacon as applicable:

Archdeacon of Cleveland – adcl@yorkdiocese.org

Archdeacon of the East Riding – ader@yorkdiocese.org

Archdeacon of York – adyk@yorkdiocese.org

The Archdeacons’ Grants replace the previous discretionary grant schemes operated by the DBF (including the QI, Repairs and Mission Fund grants).

The Diocese also has occasional access to limited additional funds given to support projects directly aligned with the ‘Reach’ and ‘Grow’ strands of our ‘Living Christ’s Story’ strategy, and particularly those focused on digital projects.

These funds will be administered by the Diocesan Secretary in consultation with the Diocesan Leadership Team. Please contact Kirsty McCullough in the first instance for further details.
