Foundations in Ministry

(Formerly the Deepening Discipleship Project)

An accompanied learning community for ministry discernment and formation.

The Foundations in Ministry course (formerly called the Deepening Discipleship Project) is for anyone exploring their call to ministry or simply wanting to get more involved in their local churches.

This learning community is the first step for those who are interested in developing their ministry and would like to explore their calling.

The course runs for 10 months and includes a mix of local gathered days and online reflection sessions.

The application form and further details about the course and the application process can be found in the resources below. The main contact regarding applications is Aimee Byrd – she will be very happy to answer any questions you may have.

Linda Wells became an Authorised Lay Minister (ALM) at St Francis of Assisi, Ingleby Barwick, in 2024. She writes:

‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my year working towards Authorised Lay Ministry, and I am surprised just how much I have achieved and learned.

With the support of my Mentor, Liz Brown (now the Revd Liz), I was encouraged to connect my desire to deepen my knowledge and understanding of the Bible with my love of art.  The result was the development and delivery of an Advent course and a Lent course, both of which were very well attended.  Encouraged by my Vicar, the Revd Brenda Forrester, and under her guidance, I organised our Stations of the Cross service, and I have prepared and delivered a homily for a Wednesday Eucharist Service and for a Service of the Word.  All of this has increased my confidence and I am now looking forward to working with Brenda and taking the next steps in my ministry’.
